House van Zyl
Overview
We had a clear vision from the start: we wanted the owners to feel the full beauty of their surroundings. To the east, the Outeniqua Mountains stretched out, and to the southeast, the ocean rolled in. It is breathtaking. So, our job was to bring that view into the home and, at the same time, bring the owners’ personality into the design. We did that through every detail—from the finishes to the textures, to the thoughtful, refined touches in the design.

House van Zyl
But there was a twist. The site itself was a challenge. It sloped steeply, and the homeowners had one request—no stairs inside the main living space. Everything had to be on one level. It was a tall order, but we weren’t backing down. Our team of architects in the Western Cape thrives on challenges like this.

After careful design consideration, we came up with a plan. Instead of fighting the slope, we embraced it. We designed two parallel wings facing north, then added a third wing, angled southeast, that intersected the others. This layout created a series of courtyards and entertainment areas, each offering shelter from the wind while opening up to those spectacular views—mountains on one side, ocean on the other.

Design New Stories
When we finished, the homeowners were over the moon. They couldn’t have been happier with the result. It wasn’t just a home; it was a place that felt like it reflected them—like it was built just for them.
